The Common Admission Test is a premium management entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Management's. A computer based test, this is a highly competitive one – a total figure of 2, 04,267 students appeared for it last year whereas the number of seats was only a little above 3700.
The examination is divided into the sections of Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, Reading Comprehension, Verbal Ability and Data Interpretation. Registration for the exam has begun from 8th August and the last date of registration Deadline (Extended) is September 27, 2016. Admit cards will be available online too. Candidates can register online only through the official website. It is being predicted that The Indian Institute of Bangalore will be hosting this year’s exam though the decision has not been finalized yet.
In order to appear for CAT, candidates must have acquired a minimum 50% in their graduation or an equivalent CGPA. Eligibility criteria are the same for those appearing from their final year of graduation. The examination is scheduled to be held on 4th December, 2016. Results will be announced by the second week of January 2017.
CAT is held through an online system where candidates need to answer 100 questions within a time span of two hours and fifty minutes. CAT is an online exam and CAT aspirants will have to solve 100 questions in 180 minutes. It has three sections:
Quantitative aptitude (60 min)
Data interpretation and logical reasoning (60 min)
Verbal and reading comprehension (60 min)

Reading comprehension, verbal reasoning, syllogisms, analogies, antonyms and synonyms, fill in the blanks, sentence correction, idioms, etc.
CAT Maths/Quant Ability:
Number systems, geometry, trigonometry, probability, permutation combination, algebra, mensuration, time and work, averages, percentages, profit and loss, quadratic and linear equations, etc.
CAT Data Interpretation:
Interpretation and analysis of data based on text, tables, graphs (line, area), charts (column, bar, pie), venn diagram, etc.
CAT Logical Reasoning:
Clocks, calendars, binary logic, seating arrangement, blood relations, logical sequence, assumption, premise, conclusion, linear and matrix arrangement, etc.
