The Management Aptitude Test, or MAT, has been organized since 1998 to screen candidates for admission to B-schools in the country for MBA and similar courses. The Government of India recognized it as a national-level test in 2003. The MAT is the ticket to enter more than 600 business schools in the country, and its results are also considered when approaching universities abroad for management courses.

Candidates can choose between the paper and computer-based tests. This exam is organized four times a year, and the dates for March this year are 23rd March 2025 for the computer-based test (CBT) while the pen-based test (PBT) is on 9th March 2025. The examination consists of 200 questions, each giving four marks for a correct answer and deducting one mark for a wrong one. The areas covered are quantitative ability, data interpretation, data Efficiency, verbal ability and reading comprehension, general awareness, and analytical and logical reasoning.

Applying for the MAT exam is straightforward. There are no specific requirements for appearing at the MAT exams, except that the applicant should have completed their graduation. Even students appearing for graduation finals can apply, provided they furnish their passing proofs later.
